Meet Rick! He is an astounding artist with many years of experience in a plethora of mediums. This year he won a top spot in our Alaskan Postcard Contest AND is the featured artist on our annual holiday card.
Who are you and what do you do?
Born in Juneau, Alaska, during the pre-statehood era in 1951, Rick Kauzlarich is a distinguished artist whose work reflects his deep connection to his hometown and its breathtaking landscapes. A multidisciplinary creator, Rick's artistic journey spans traditional painting and the dynamic realm of digital art.
Who or what inspires you?
Renowned for his vivid and distinctive portraits of people, animals, birds, and Alaska’s awe-inspiring landscapes, Rick captures the essence of his subjects with vibrant colors and meticulous detail. His art is not only a celebration of Alaska’s natural beauty but also an exploration of the spiritual dimensions embedded in its rugged terrain.
Rick's versatility shines in his seamless transition from traditional painting to digital art. Inspired in part by the innovative approaches of artists like David Hockney, Rick creates on his iPad then sends the image to be printed on diverse materials such as paper and aluminum, combine contemporary techniques with evocative narratives. This innovative approach breathes new life into his work while maintaining the richness and emotional depth that define his artistry.
